During the UK Slot Car Festival in May, association members were able to discuss digital slot car racing with several up-and-coming clubs using the SSD system and racing mainly box-stock Scalextric GT cars. In acknowledgement that most DiSCA technical formula to date are towards the more serious end of the modifying spectrum, it was decided that a new formula that suited entry-level club racing would help novice and domestic racers climb the first rung of the ladder of regulated slot racing competition.
GT4 trophy was devised as a formula for in-line GT cars such as those by Scalextric, Carrera and Ninco 1 which could be raced together in box-standard specification. To boost grid sizes, older Scalextric SW cars are also permitted with the further option of converting to IL with aftermarket 3D-printed chassis.
The first event to be run under DiSCA GT4 specs took place at the Exmoor Slot Racing Club on 30th May, with points counting towards the annual club championship. Club chairman Duncan Kirby was one of a small team of consultants that collaborated to devise the formula, alongside Andy Player (Worthing) and Giovanni Russello (Aukland).
